2005.3.30: Arrival
Hallo. A while ago I picked up the Evangelion Figure Archive, a book cataloging every Eva capsule-toy, action figure, garage kit, and everything in between. One Ayanami Rei figure in particular caught my attention. Now, I do have experience with modeling; I fielded a mighty Tyranid army in my day, and I have more recently discovered the joy of Wave's plastic robot kits. But a garage kit is something else. These things require drilling , for goodness's sake! I told myself that if I ever did become insane enough to do a garage kit, this is the one I would do.

Gainax, the Eva people, have a program by which amateur sculptors can easily license Gainax characters for their own figures. This gives up-and-coming sculptors like suzu(of ATOMIC-BOM) a huge audience, and gives Gainax a pretty much endless supply of attention for their characters.
A couple of days later I was perusing eBay when what should I stumble across but this very kit for a mere 25 ameribux. These things can cost ten times that much depending on the production, so I considered it my lucky chance. I sent off for it and commenced waiting. The dude claimed I'd have it in 7-15 days, but it ended up taking 21. That's not a big deal, though, considering that I still have three plastic robots just waiting for me to complete them.

The box came from Thailand via registered mail with a nice red-and-white bit of string around it.
